Ladies, how often did you play as a fairy in your childhood? Exactly! So this time around I have decided to fulfill the dreams of our little girls by making a rather fun prop for a photoshoot. This entire project came about when one of my friends has sent over wooden sheets and some of them had animal shapes carved out in them (that is a different project in the pipeline). He has his own company that can help out with such tasks. Check out his work on Facebook at Eko Pracownia - CNC, Fotografia, Pigment. I have asked him if he could cut me some wings for a prop. And there it was, I had machine cut wooden wings that I could work with. Now the issue at hand was to glue them somehow together so they can be attached to the back of the little one. Below you can see how amazing they look so far. My vision however was to create a dual colour semi-transparent stained glass effect. To get there I have used clear film plastic light filter gel to fill in the gaps. You will see how it turned out later on.
Thanks to db4you and his 3D printer the problem of connecting them two separate wings has been solved. Check out his twitter post to find out more. The plastic holder thing is a perfect solution as it attached them at an angle of about 25 degrees so that the final effect gives an illusion of flapping wings. The design also includes holes on each side which allows for easy installation on the girls back using colorful ribbons that are soft to the touch. Under the holder I have added a soft layer of foam so that it does not bother the to be fairy when she is walking around with the wings attached. The entire contraption has been wrapped with pink celler tape. I have a feeling I will be using db4you printer and laser engraver for my other props in the future as he makes my life so much easier. Below you can see the stages the wings went through:
First child photoshoot using the new sparkling fairy wings prop has taken place few days back near the Coombe Abbey park in Coventry, West Midlands. A cute young model was fascinated with the wings and a sunshine like smile has appeared on her face. She instantly wanted to pose for the photos and pretended to be a fairy. One of her comments was : I always wanted to have such wings!
Thank you very much to the mother and the young model that made this session possible. It was a really pleasant experience for everyone involved. I will see you in my next blog. I have few things in the works so watch this space.
